The truth has always been elusive, And, now, in the age of social media, algorithms expose us only to information and beliefs that conform to and reinforce our own beliefs. Alternative facts masquerade as reality. The truth is even harder to discern. In our work and home lives, we must make the effort to actively seek the truth and protect it as a valuable business and national resource.
The first time I heard Tony Robbins’ name was watching the movie “Shallow Hal.” In it, Robbins, playing himself, hypnotizes the main character Hal so that he sees an unattractive woman as beautiful, allowing him to get to know her and see that her true beauty is inside.
Brian Williams may have disappeared from our television screens. But the issue that led to his becoming the news instead of merely reporting it, has not—and that is, trust. For a journalist who is supposed to seek and tell the truth, embellishing the truth is careless malpractice.
