Being on LinkedIn these days feels a lot like walking into a bar. You sit down, make small talk, maybe share a laugh—and then suddenly, someone’s hitting on you.

Except instead of “Can I buy you a drink?” it’s “Can I interest you in our lead-generation services?”

It usually starts innocently enough.

“Hey, looks like we have a lot of mutual connections!”
 or
“I see you’re into [insert generic professional interest here]—me too!”

I think, Seems nice enough, and hit “Accept.”

And then—bam. The sales pitch lands in my inbox faster than a bad pickup line.

“We can help you boost your sales!”
“We offer great video marketing solutions!”
“Need capital? We can get it!

Whoa, slow down there, tiger. Does this pick-up line work?

No conversation. No curiosity. No attempt to find out what I actually need.

Just straight to the pitch.

And here’s the thing—nothing kills potential business faster than treating LinkedIn like Tinder-for-sales.

I disconnect immediately and make a mental note: this person doesn’t get it.

Because here’s what really works—relationships. You know, that old-fashioned thing where you make the time and effort to get to know someone, build trust, and then maybe talk business.

A LinkedIn connection isn’t a green light for a sales proposition; it’s a handshake. The beginning of a conversation.

So, to all the financial planners, video producers, and capital raisers out there—I love you, truly.

But maybe buy me a virtual coffee before you pitch me your services.

After all, nobody likes being hit on the second they walk in the door.
