So many friends, family, colleagues and clients are suffering right now, physically and mentally.

The pandemic is taking its toll on all of us.

And our country is suffering too—there is so much division, anger, animosity, frustration and pain.

How we communicate with others can be a kind of salve that soothes.

The kind word from the doctor calling to check in after surgery.

Encouragement and counsel to a friend looking for a job.

Sending a funny email that makes a colleague laugh and forget the challenges at work for a few minutes.

Stimulating conversation with a client that leads to new ideas and approaches.

Listening with an open heart to someone who holds very different opinions, seeking if not to accept to at least understand their perspective.

Communication alone can’t and won’t heal us.

We have to do the work.  We have to take action.

But caring communication is a good start.
