FOR AN INDUSTRY FOCUSED ON REPUTATION BUILDING, IT’S IMAGE IS BAD.
I came upon a recent Gallup survey of American’s views of various industries and the public relations profession was once again at the bottom. And that is sad.
Maybe it’s because PR folks don’t promote themselves very well as good professionals stay in the background. But it may be because of their actions, which suggest that PR is spin and half truths. (In my experience, it is not.).
It’s not so much what you say about yourself but rather what people see and hear for themselves and what others say about you.
And that is clearly derived from how you treat people, your ethics or lack thereof and putting your client and others first. It’s about respect, honesty and doing the right thing, not just the expedient one.
