The bill for my Washington Post subscription came in the mail the other day and I had a decision to make. To renew or not. Until now, not renewing had never crossed my mind. Keeping up with the news is a lifelong dedication, not just a part of my media relations work. But since my dog, who faithfully retrieved the newspaper from the end of the driveway each day had died, I found I wasn’t running out to fetch it. I read the paper online.
Newspapers are dying. The need for journalism is not. And that is why I renewed– not for the paper itself but to support the work of gathering news responsibly. We need a Fourth Estate.
