There is a number floating out there that 90% of blogs are abandoned after six months. Even though I haven’t written in almost a month, I have no intention of abandoning this cog in the social media wheel and will not be part of that 90%. Let’s just say that life got in the way for a few weeks.
Last week I officially joined a new club–those 50 and above. Oddly enough, I don’t feel 50 although I don’t know what 50 is supposed to feel or look like. It is a little unsettling to know that if I were a building, I’d be eligible for historic status and that I’m getting solicitations from AARP and Centrum Silver, (useless since retirement is not likely to be an option for many years nor am I silver thanks to the magic of chemistry).
In a culture that celebrates and adores youth, I’m actually feeling pretty good about 50. With age really does come wisdom–an ability to step back and see things in greater context, to see nuance and texture and to embrace the gray areas and ambiguity in life.
I’m just hoping that I don’t become like my Saab, which once it had 50,000 miles on it started breaking down just as the warranty ran out. Too bad we don’t have warranties on ourselves but never say never, right?
For my next 50, I’m feeling pretty bullish–I am fascinated by the disruption taking place in our society and our world right now. We are in the midst of profound change that hopefully will lead us to new innovations and improved lives. I’m looking forward to the future, to new technological and medical breakthroughs and to the new possibilities for communicating and building community.
